I was late. I pre-ordered yesterday, so I only got to play for 3 or 4 hours. And I'm already hooked! That's why I'm here I guess...

I just started playing GW, this past BWE in Feb., and have been looking for an outlet and a fix... so I have been zoning on my computer, listening to the music from GW, and reviewing the maps in my mind's eye...

I still love the graphics!

Those "unofficial" servers are actuall illegal servers made for people who have warez the game. Don't ask me how I know that .

Untrue.

All servers are legal, they host all the information and code it all themselves. They are creating their own service and in doing so, avoiding the cost of the professional service. They bought the game, and unless there is a statement in the user agreement that they may only play on official servers, then there is no legal issue at hand.

UO's free shards have been around for years without any bigwigs trying to shut them down

Currently nobody has "bought" guildwars yet (besides a $5 preorder) so even if that is true for retail versions Cic, it doesn't apply to GW.

Also, if you read WoW's User Agreement I'd bet that unofficial servers are against their policy. I'd check but I don't have it installed anymore.

The thing about free servers is that for the most part you get what you pay for. My current love-hate relationship with the free Lineage 2 server I play on is a good example of that. Most of the time what you gain in free-ness you pay for in quality. Also, with the streaming content that ANet continues to promise there would be a whole lot of content that players on free GW servers would miss out on.

And must I add that you only have music and gaphics on your computer? You don't have skills, items nor monster stats? Those are all server based. If someone wanted to make his own server, he would have to code all those formulas by himself... and that would be looooong!

Guess where are we living now? Hell without guildwars... When guildwars is out, we be above the cloud and over the rainbow

Those server are actually not illegal... HOWEVER, editing your copy of the game IS illegal... so technically still illegal anyway, they cant exactly shutdown the server thru legal action... and cant exactly put every player with edited software into the court. (I bet if they really did take legal action, the owner of the server would lose anyway)

Can anyone say Napster?
This is part of the problem as to why games are prices the way they are. Companies know that thing are going to get hacked and distibuted and will do everything in their power to stop it. And the fact that they are causes the price to got up.
At least GW is handeling it well so that you don't have to pay the monthly fee, the more we help by not endorcing these sites the lower the pricing should get. If a game is good you should reward those that put it together by PAYING FOR IT!

That's from the WoW opening cinematic. It's an Undead Warlock.
